With the increasing polluting factors in the environment, the human lives are always at a stake of risk. Biodiversity in diseases have been the sole reason behind this. PCOD or polycystic ovarian disease is one the most common causes of infertility. During PCOD, the patients have multiple small cysts in their ovaries that occur when the regular changes of a normal menstrual cycle are disturbed. The ovary is enlarged and it produces excessive amounts of androgen and estrogen hormones. The patients with PCOD have abnormal levels of hormones that result in irregular infertility and certain muscular changes in the body. Some of the symptoms of the disease are irregular menses, weight gain with difficulty in losing weight, ace and dandruff, thinning of hair, diabetes and high cholesterol. Since PCOD is hormonal disorder among women mail caused due to insulin resistance, has weight gain as the prime side effect. Hence, there have been restrictions in the food intake. Generally the foods that trigger the insulin level in the body and worsen the polycystic ovary symptoms are to be avoided. Some of them are mentioned below:
1. High GI foods: The foods that have high Glycerin Index promote a sudden rise in blood sugar level which results in the insulin release into the bloodstream. Some of the unhealthy high GI foods are biscuits, cakes, white bread, rolls, white rice, etc. Simple sugar and carbohydrates are directly linked to insulin secretion which in turn results in disruption of ovulation.
2. Dairy products: As we all know dairy products and milk are the most essential foods since our childhood. But there come a time when these should be avoided. Yes! They can be dangerous when you have PCOD, as consumption of milk can increase testosterone levels which can worsen the symptoms to a greater extent. Therefore, avoiding milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, etc is the best way to deal with PCOD.
3. Soy products: Soy, as an alternative to milk, is also known to worsen the symptoms of PCOD. Scientifically, soy delays ovulation and hence avoiding soy products and exclude it especially from the pregnancy diet.
4. Unhealthy fats: The Unhealthy fats should be strictly restricted in the diet. These fats consist of saturated fats and hydrogenated fats that extrapolate the problems of PCOD by hindering the absorption of certain essential nutrients in the body. This often adds on to weight gain.
5. Alcohol: Consumption of alcohol increases the risk of PCOD syndrome in women by 50%. The liver is the key organ which eliminates oestrogen from the body, while consumption of alcohol directly affects the functioning of the liver thus worsening the effect.
