What Is a Plyo Box and Why Should Your Workouts Include It

Before I tell you why using a Plyo Box is a great way to get a full-body workout, let me tell you what it is. Even though many of you might have seen it at your gym or in fitness influencers’ pictures, not many seem to know the name of this versatile piece of equipment.

A Plyo Box or plyometric box is a sturdy box that most gyms have. These boxes are designed to increase speed, power, coordination, and explosiveness without needing additional equipment. They are also a great supplement to your regular strength training routine. They are especially beneficial and important for training in specific sports such as basketball, sprinting, and golf.

Even though many lower-body plyometric exercises utilize a box of some sort that you jump on and off, they’re so versatile that you can spend an entire gym session using just the Plyo Box and still get a full-body workout that hits on all the areas you’re working to strengthen or improve.

While the Plyo Box is designed for supporting jumping exercises – based on how it is named after plyometric which means expanding and contracting rapidly – it can also double as a bench-like tool.

Like I mentioned using a Plyo Box with exercising – which is know as Plyometric training – is a great way of developing explosive power and increasing your vertical jump.

  • Fat Loss: Because the explosiveness is high in Plyometric training, it helps you burn extra calories and keeps your heart rate high during the workout intervals.
