Online Fashion or Upscale Stores?

Does online fashion spell the end of upscale, full-service clothing stores?

With so many online-only fashion retailers opening up – and many more upscale brands expanding their web presence -? shoppers face the dilemma of whether to shop in person or choose the convenience of the internet. Here are some of the pros and cons of each:

Convenient – sure, many of us enjoy spending a whole day going from store to store picking out clothes, but for others it’s a burden.
Cheaper – this isn’t always true, but when you’re shopping online you can quickly get an overview of the best deals, and it’s easier to compare prices.
Huge selection – the web puts the fashion world at your fingertips, allowing you to view an enormous range of brands and styles in one place.
Browse trends as you shop – with the internet, you can be reading an article on what’s in this spring and summer on one tab, while you log in to buy on another.
Home delivery – most online retailers recognize the need for competitive customer service and offer no-fuss returns policies if you’re not satisfied.

Shopping In-Person

Try before you buy – this is probably the most important reason that brick-and-mortar stores thrive: you can see how new clothes look on you before making a decision
Expert advice – shop staff are stepping up their game to compete with online reviews, and many stores have fashion experts of their own to give you tips on what’s hot and what’s not.
Unique items – however wide the selection of online retailers, they’re unlikely to offer those unusual, one-of-a-kind gems you can sometimes pick up in vintage stores. If you like a quirky style, these shops are the place to go.
The experience – there’s no doubt about it, going from shop to shop trying on a series of clothes feels much better than clicking through a series of websites – and you can wear your new purchases home!
